Herndon, Virginia was named in 1858 after Commander William Lewis Herndon of the U.S. Navy. Originally an early colonial settlement, Herndon developed into a hub of dairy farming and vacationing for local residents. When the local railroad became a hiking/biking trail now known as the W&OD, Herndon capitalized on its history and small town feel by turning its train station into a museum and visitors’ center. Today, Herndon maintains a small town charm that is evident in its downtown, neighborhoods and commercial areas. Herndon may be a great place to find affordable housing in Fairfax County, but with three Metro Silver Line stops right nearby, it is also primed to produce an incredible future return on your home purchase today.
